Welcome to Gilly's Place

A few years ago my granddaughters asked me to put together a cookbook of about 20 family favorite recipes and when I did the 20 pages looked rather skimpy so I added more, and more, and more till their binders held 60. Heavily embellished I gave them to the girls at Christmastime. Every Christmas since then I've added 60 more pages to their collections and have reached the 300 mark...and they're looking forward to getting even more. These are not random recipes, they're all tried and true. Anyway, when word got around it seems everybody and their second cousin wanted a cookbook so I began selling them to cover the cost of materials and now I'm passing them on to others as digital freebies, who like me, enjoy family, friends, cooking, and sharing. Print the pages to a standard letter size and save them in any old binder that blends with your kitchen. Please do print them for yourself and gift-giving to family and friends but please do not claim as your own as it wouldn't be fair to the designers I buy from or the wonderful talent that is freely given by bloggers. I'd love to hear from you and if you leave a comment on a post I will reply on the same. Please don't leave anything on the 4shared page, I seldom think to check those.

Green Tomato Cake

Hi all, I've been playing nursemaid to my kitty who was hit by a car last week.  X-rays showed no broken bones and though he spent two days in the small animal hospital he isn't healing fast or well at all.  Two days later he was in for a checkup at which time the vet prescribed something to be taken for seven days straight then every other day for another two weeks.  His right hind leg isn't healing and he's dragging the poor thing behind him like a dead weight, so much so, that he's now worn the fur right off the paw and it's beginning to look raw.  He's due for another checkup tomorrow and I'm anxious to hear what the vet's got to say, he did mention amputation last time we were in but I really don't want to go there just yet.

Meanwhile, we've had two eight grade promotions and a Father's Day BBQ at Carly's Mom and Dad's place.  We had a good time and I opened my big mouth, invited everyone over the coming fourth and yoohoo, promised them an open bar if they could show me the designated driver.  I've been planning my menu and praying the fates will shower down some extra cash, gotta feed a crew of forty-some all with healthy appetites.

So after nearly a month's absence I'm here to present my green tomato cake, a recipe I found online some years back.  Scrap kit is Bosom Buddies @ PCCrafter.

  1. Praying for your cat and hoping she begins to heal. It is so hard when an animal is hurt.
I have celiac. Once our tomatoes are big enough I'll make this with rice flours. I'll try to remember to email you about the results.
Thank you for sharing the recipe

  3. Thank you SO much for this recipe! It is a very unique one and I want to send my daughter in law to your site to get the recipe page, so she can make this cake! My son has a garden and usually, more tomatoes than they know what to do with. When my kids were small, I used to make a green tomato pie that was absolutely delicious. I will try my hand at this if I can muster up the energy!!! I love your site!
