Welcome to Gilly's Place

A few years ago my granddaughters asked me to put together a cookbook of about 20 family favorite recipes and when I did the 20 pages looked rather skimpy so I added more, and more, and more till their binders held 60. Heavily embellished I gave them to the girls at Christmastime. Every Christmas since then I've added 60 more pages to their collections and have reached the 300 mark...and they're looking forward to getting even more. These are not random recipes, they're all tried and true. Anyway, when word got around it seems everybody and their second cousin wanted a cookbook so I began selling them to cover the cost of materials and now I'm passing them on to others as digital freebies, who like me, enjoy family, friends, cooking, and sharing. Print the pages to a standard letter size and save them in any old binder that blends with your kitchen. Please do print them for yourself and gift-giving to family and friends but please do not claim as your own as it wouldn't be fair to the designers I buy from or the wonderful talent that is freely given by bloggers. I'd love to hear from you and if you leave a comment on a post I will reply on the same. Please don't leave anything on the 4shared page, I seldom think to check those.

Chinese Cheesecake

Sorry about the inconvenience but I have unresolved problems with Blogger - my posts do not show up on the first page so if you want to access the new recipes please go to the right side bar and retrieve them through the year 2012/January.

Daughter's been here with Jonathan for a few days, we've been playing games all day, watching movies all night.  I'm gonna hate to see her leave...what a clean-up in store for me, hahaha.  New Year's around the corner so I'm headed that way with recipes, well, a few of them at least. Today I've combined  Guy Fieri's recipe with My4BabiesScraps' Pandas and Pagodas to bring you Chinese Cheesecake.  Not a true cheesecake as we know it, but good none-the-less.

And if you're looking to celebrate with a more traditional dish check out Ham Steak and Hoppin John under both ham and beansAfter the lavish tables set for the New Year's Eve celebration this simple meal is served in the superstitious belief that black-eye peas bring luck, wealth and peace.  I'd like to believe that myself.

Don't forget to skip on over to Brandee's site. I peeked in this morning and will browse this afternoon.  She had a few interesting recipes I want to try out.
http://brandeehomemade.blogspot.com/  you might especially like her countdowns to Thanksgiving and Christmas.

TRIVIA: most downloaded recipe of 2011 was Baked Macaroni and Cheese with a 474 count.  And guys, if you like the pages click on the #1 tab after the download link!  Thanks for stopping in and the support.  Catch ya' later!

Dance Recital QPs

Morning all!  I finally got around to doing my GD Olivia's dance recital pics so here you go...snag one or both.  The theater background's from SuperScraps, a background freebie, and the rest from Just So Srappy's "Tutucute".

and

Sunshine Orange

Hi guys, everybody have a happy holiday?  Thanks for the comments and well wishes, it's always good hearing from you.  Hope your Christmas was especially merry and bright and the coming year filled with family, friends, and good fortune.

Got a sweet little item for your New Year's Eve party, a light dessert with just a touch of alcohol that's just barely there.  When in the fridge the layers separate into a plain jell-o layer and a creamier one .  I've only done this with the recommended organge but strawberry jell-o and rum sounds good to me too.  Or how about lime jell-o with tequila?  Think of the combinations!

Dirty Martini Tomatoes

Hey Nancy & Betty, thanks again. As for the gingerbread, hahaha, I picked up five new sets this year and can't seem to pull myself away from this one.  I just absolutely love Just So Scrappy's "Gingeriffic"

As mentioned earlier this week here's the recipe.  This, too, makes a great give-away for someone who's just turned of legal age, someone puttting in a home bar, etc.  Package a basket or bag with a set of great martini glasses, cocktail spears and napkins, a bottle of Russian Vodka, Grey Goose, Absolut, or Smirnoff-whatever your budget allows.  Fancy schmanchy chocolates abound this time of year too, great addition.  Just have fun with it.

Thanks for stoppin in, catch 'ya later!

Ham and Cheese Sliders

Morning, and what a nice morning it is.  Cold but not freezing.  Nice.

So while I had Bots on the desktop I put together this page.  About a month ago I found the recipe on Pinterest and tried it on the family.  It's nice to have something quick on hand for those lasy afternoons when you don't really want to do much.  In anticipation of just such a day I had frozen some dinner rolls for when the mood struck me.  Making only half the recipe 'cause we're only three, the amount was perfect...and what's even better is that both hubby and Carly asked that I would make them again soon.  It's the poppy seed glaze that won them over, me too!  Give them a try!

Oh yeah, noticed the added gadget LABELS?  Finally got around to getting it up.

Gingerbread Cookie Mix (in a jar)

Hi guys, and Vicki-welcome to my place!  I've been playing with
NitWits "Cookin Cookies" this week and have an assortment of goodies for you
the first of which is the recipe for these crispy gingerbread cookies
in which there's a perfect balance of spices.  The dough looked crumbly but it rolled out OK.  I made them a bit thicker than the recipe called for and though they didn't crumble into a gazillion pieces when I first bit its head off my gingerbread man was still a hard cookie.

I picked up some baskets for the GDs this week and besides the filled Mason Jar I'm adding a freshly baked batch of cookies, cookie cutters, tea, wooden spoons, measuring cups/measuring spoons, peppermint candies, etc.  I know it's something they'll enjoy receiving.

So here's installment 1, the recipe and a peek at what's coming this week.

Tickled Pink Pickled Eggs

Hi guys! For all of you making homemade goodies at Christmastime ours wouldn't be complete without the boys each getting a half-gallon jug of these pickled eggs for their enjoyment.  I like to make them about a week before gift-giving otherwise they get too red (and too strong) to turn some people off.  My opinion is that they reach their peak after 3-4 days, after that, pucker up!  Got a game room or a bar set up somewhere?  They sure look good in a big ole jar next to a cold beer and if you fancy something a little more for the ladies I'll share my Drunken Martini Tomatoes with you a bit later on.  Using the fruit as appetizers and the juice as a base for a Bloody Mary these too make a great conversation piece at the bar.  I made 7 quarts a while back for gift-giving.  For now, here's the pickled eggs.

Quick Ministrone

Overcast again today, such a gloomy day, no wonder I'm having a difficult time getting into the Christmas spirit.  I need snow, carols, cookie exchanges, and pork pies in the oven...none of which seem to be happening.  Gonna make me a big pot of soup and hunker down, still in my jammies, to watch a Christmas movie or two.
Join me?

Thanks for stopping by, catch 'ya later!
