Welcome to Gilly's Place

A few years ago my granddaughters asked me to put together a cookbook of about 20 family favorite recipes and when I did the 20 pages looked rather skimpy so I added more, and more, and more till their binders held 60. Heavily embellished I gave them to the girls at Christmastime. Every Christmas since then I've added 60 more pages to their collections and have reached the 300 mark...and they're looking forward to getting even more. These are not random recipes, they're all tried and true. Anyway, when word got around it seems everybody and their second cousin wanted a cookbook so I began selling them to cover the cost of materials and now I'm passing them on to others as digital freebies, who like me, enjoy family, friends, cooking, and sharing. Print the pages to a standard letter size and save them in any old binder that blends with your kitchen. Please do print them for yourself and gift-giving to family and friends but please do not claim as your own as it wouldn't be fair to the designers I buy from or the wonderful talent that is freely given by bloggers. I'd love to hear from you and if you leave a comment on a post I will reply on the same. Please don't leave anything on the 4shared page, I seldom think to check those.

Park Avenue Bars

Hi all!  Kinda busy today, starting a tiny bit of remodeling in the bathroom.  A bit of mess all this week, we're slow workers at our age.

These bars have just a few ingredients and are quick to make.  Leave the cream cheese out until it's super soft, just makes it easier to work with and comes out much creamier in the end.

Chicken Pot Pie

Hi everybody, well, it's been quiet here for the past few days and after the wind storm of yesterday the sun's shining and all's well with the world.  (another of my fantasies along with a remodeled kitchen and the loss of the extra twenty pounds I've put on lately.)  Anyway, here's my go-to recipe for pot pie, it's the family's #1 choice.  This came from a recipe swap I did years ago and please, cut your chicken into pieces, do not shred.  It's a mistake I made a while back and the mixture was so thick it was paste-like, didn't taste like it, just looked like it.  So as they say...try it, you'll like it.

Cracker Barrel's Hash Brown Casserole

Well, we're not out from under the BLACK CLOUD yet!  It's gone from pathetic to ridiculously funny now.  Guess what broke down this week...the hot water tank...$1200's worth of break down.  I'd say "I need a break" but I'm afraid I'd be the next to break down (lol).
On a more cheerful note, I've never had these at Cracker Barrel's but this recipe is so darn good I don't care if I ever do have them there.  Anway,  out of a batch I make 9 small casseroles enjoying three with breakfast and freezing the other six in two batches of three for hubby, Carly, and myself.  Nice to have on hand.  Just make sure you work this up in a very large bowl or you 'll have a big mess on your hands.

I used KMiller's "Simple Pleasures" to do this page up.  Visit her site if you have a chance.  I like her stuff even though she is a tad more expensive than some I favor lately.

So glad you stopped by, catch 'ya later!

Blueberry Brunch Bake

I can't say anything more than YUM! when it comes to this oven-baked French toast casserole.  We love it topped with a little maple syrup tapped from the trees in my daughter's back yard, boiled down by my grandson, and exchanged by my son-in-law.   I received two pint jars in exchange for a gallon of plain ol' pickled eggs & kielbasa.  This for that. Thank you very much.  Serves 6-8 depending on your appetite.

That syrup just makes the top glisten, doesn't it?

Mexican Fiesta Spoon Biscuits

...And a Good Monday Morning to all of you...  Thanks ladies for your encouraging words, every one was appreciated.  Well, turns out nothing's as bad as it could have been.  True, PCCrafter's site is no longer doing business, the door's closed, the lights are off, and the phone's off the hook BUT...the door's been left unlocked so I just walked in and retrieved my 384 scrap kits.  YAY ME!  So to celebrate my good fortune I went shopping at A-Manda's.

My GD Justus was at the house when I first made these biscuits,  We sampled them fresh out of the oven, had one portion apiece, then two, then three, etc. till the pan was gone-completely gone.  They're both flavorful and addicting, we'll attest to that.  Whenever I make a cheese soup I make these biscuits also.  They compliment each other beautifully.  Hope you try them.

Chicken Fingers with Dipping Sauce

I COULD JUST CRY!!!  The guy at Staples said he'd transferred all my folders to the new Dell but he MISSED THE TWO BIGGEST FOLDERS EVER!  I lost my PCCrafter folder of over two hundred scrap kits and since the company closed down the site 12/31/11 I can no longer upload and save them to hard copy.  My DIL's BIL is a self proclaimed computer geek so I'll see if he can draw the little suckers out and put them on a flash drive for me.  If not, I'll cry for a day or two then go on with my life.  The second folder, BTW, contained all my other scrap kits in one folder they were lost also but that's not too too bad.  I had about 80% of them on CDs and another 10-15% can be re-downloaded from my accounts.  Lesson learned...I'm out to buy USBs by the case load.

A small bit of good news, he recovered my Happy Hour folder with lots of unpublished cocktail recipes.  I think I'll get good use out of these for the next day or so, (teeheehee, she said sarcastically.)

So, now the crying's done, let's get on with it, shall we?

Hi guys, what a month!!!  Sorry I've been away for a while but life's been throwing curves at us and we've been going round in circles for at least three weeks now.

Not in order but you'll get the gist of it.  One of my husband's older brothers died and two days later his best friend of over sixty years died also.  Hubby blew the radiator on the truck, decided he needed a new car, took out a loan and bought himself a car.  Over Christmas (which was supposed to be quiet) I had more guests than I've had in a while and was ill prepared to entertain.  I got bit by a stray cat I'd been feeding and because it was a stray I had to get the series of rabies vaccines, not painful but a bit of a pain in the you-know-what.  Animal Control couldn't catch him so after ten days Officer Garth called to tell me since I was still alive I didn't have rabies.  LOL.  BTW, I'm still feeding Gray Cat twice a day. Hubby needed day surgery for a recurring problem.  My PC had been fluttering and finally collapsed in a time when I could ill afford a new one.  To replace the motherboard would cost me over three hundred bucks so I thought may as well save and get a new one.  I went without, watched a gazillion movies, took as many naps, sent for take-out cause I didn't feel like cooking, suffered though withdrawal till my hubby could take it no more.  He surprised me by going to Staples, had my data transferred to a brand new Dell Inspiron and told me to go play...so here I am.

I need a day or two to learn the ins and outs of this new Dell but I'll be back later this week.
